History of Historical Rotary Club of Ahmednagar


On 15th August 1947 India became an independent country. Within few hours after independence (72 hours) i.e., on 18th August 1947, Rotary Club of Ahmednagar was established. It was a golden day in the history of Ahmednagar.


Rtn. H. A. Khan was Charter President of Rotary Club of Ahmednagar and Rtn. Sarosh Irani was the Secretary. The Charter was signed by international president Rtn. S. Kendrick Guernsey and Rtn. Behram N. The club received Club ID number15480 number 6697.


Since then, Ahmednagar Rotary club has been participating in different social activities. Ever since it has resolved social issues in the near by area. Each president has implemented multiple projects in his tenure with the help of generous people and members.


In the entrance of Ahmednagar city, a pencil sketch in Mahavir Art Gallery, sketched by our member Rtn. Pramod Kamble has praised by many national and international dignitaries.


To spread environmental awareness our member, environment expert Rtn. Prof. B. N. Shinde with the help of other club members arranged a rally ‘Varsha Jal Mahayadnya’ in the Rotary district 3130. Rtn. Adv. Satish Bhope created a memorable memory by arranging ‘founder of rotary Rtn. Paul Harris Palakhi and Dindi’ in Mahabaleshwar district conference.


Interstate Rotary marathon 2004-2005 was very well-known event where players from entire state participated. Many dignitaries like Mayor and Police Officers participated in the event. A participant from Akkalkot won the marathon then. It was a greatest attraction during that time. Every year events like Polio Drive, Blood Donation Camp, Tree Plantation and many more takes place. Praising people from such well-known fields has been a ritual of our club. Rtn. Dr. Sudha Kankariya, seeing her contribution given in polio drive , was honored as a soldier in the Rotary District 3130/3132. She is giving her contribution in oppose of female feticide which is being considered on many levels.


Our club participated in International Youth Exchange Program.Gaurav Paasi (1997) and Bharat Maval took the participation in the said event. An Exhibition was arranged on Boys Highschool ground near station road. Businessmen, Entrepreneurs from entire Maharashtra with their products had participated. This was a multidimensional event where everyone enjoyed. Rotary Food Bank is a unique project. With the help of this project we donated food, water and hygiene maintenance was implemented in a well-known social workers in Mrs. Sindhutai Sapkal’s organization and Maharshi Walmik society’s boy’s hostel. This was one of the important project.


Our club has implemented project like blood donation camp for almost 9 to 10 years. Under the same project with the help of international organizations our club organized blood component lab. Apart from this, our club implemented many praiseworthy projects like houses for blind people, JITO trade fair etc.At village Khuntefal under village upliftment program,Club implemented concept like work and independence. Club participated for matching partners with Rotary Club of Karachi.


We realized that we can work in environmental awareness on international level hence we sent two young people under ‘Jagat Sanjivani’ to Brazil.
